This week of residency focuses on performer Joséphine Auffray, offering the space to dive into her identity, roots, and improvised movement patterns. The process seeks to uncover recurring physical themes and narratives, connecting them to the broader themes of the piece. Through this exploration, Joséphine’s individual contributions will be refined and integrated into the trio’s collective language, creating a foundation for future stages of the work.
Piel Ensemble is a trilogy of works examining human connection through the body and personal narratives. Starting with the introspective|Pi| solo piece, which premiered in 2023 and investigated themes of self and belonging, the trilogy now expands into |3L|, the trio piece, with its focus on relationships, shared stories, and movement in community. The next step will be the collaborative {ensemble}, a performance project involving a multigenerational audience of participants. This final piece will extend the trilogy’s core themes, creating a platform for diverse voices to connect and be seen through movement and storytelling.
